From August 8 through Labor Day, each time a dish from the Summer Harvest menu is ordered, Big Bowl and Freebird Chicken will donate $1 to a local nonprofit organization. It's our way of inspiring the community about sustainability and celebrating organizations committed to that role. The minimum donation from each of Big Bowl's three regions is $500 (maximum $1000).
In Illinois, the donation will go to Global Citizenship Experience. It is a not for profit Chicago High School that offers a rigorous educational platform for aspiring global innovators.
Donations from Big Bowl's Minnesota locations (Edina, Minnetonka and Roseville) will go to the Youth Farm. It provides educational programming for children through urban agriculture, gardens and greenhouses.
In Reston, Va., the designated recipient is the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship. The nonprofit organization oversees an 893-acre historic landscape, weaving together environmental stewardship, farming on some 200 acres and educational programs.
Freebird is the ideal partner to support the Summer Harvest Celebration and the restaurant's mission of Building Good Food. It supplies Big Bowl with all natural chicken, humanely raised on family-owned farms with room to roam, and never given antibiotics or other drugs.
The special harvest menu has been created by Big Bowl Creative Chef Patricia Yeo (2012 Top Chef Master finalist) and Executive Chef and farm owner Marc Bernard. Look for peak season local ingredients.
